In the heart of the Timbavati Games Reserve, the Simbavati River Lodge offers the chance of a face-to- face encounter with Africa’s incredibly varied wildlife from the lodge’s private viewing decks.
The River Lodge combines the rustic appeal of an African game with stylish modern interiors. Choose from 2-bedroom Family suites or luxurious Safari Tents, all feature private outdoor decks overlooking the Nhlaralumi River. The spacious Family Suites are air-conditioned, and have large bathrooms with twin wash-basins and deep, free-standing baths.
Each evening the Simbavati Lodge offers game drives conducted by experienced rangers, providing the opportunity to photograph some of the reserve’s incredible array of wildlife that includes the 'big 5' - lions, leopards, rhino, buffalo and elephant.
Afterwards you can sit around the campfire and sample traditional African cuisine prepared on the braai.
Travel informationSimbavati River Lodge is a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg.
- Take the N4 to Witbank.
- Take the Belfast off-ramp (R33/R540).
- Once in Belfast town, turn right into Voortrekker Street and continue straight to Dullstroom on the R540. Drive straight through Dullstroom town and keep straight to Lyndenberg.
-Once in Lyndenberg turn left into Potgieter Street and continue straight to Ohrighstad on R36 until it turns left to Tzaneen. Do not turn, but continue straight on the R527 to Hoedspruit.
-In Hoedspruit, continue straight over the bridge crossing the train line to a four way stop. At the stop turn right and continue towards Bosbokrand / Bushbuckridge along the R40.
- Approximately 7 km from Hoedspruit, note the East-Gate Airport sign on your left hand side. At the sign, turn left to Timbavati. Drive for about 19 km, and then a further 9km of gravel till you reach the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
- At the entrance you will be required to pay an entrance fee of R 110.00 per person and R 100.00 per car (Above fees are subject to change).
- Continue straight for 15.9 km (on tarmac road), you will see a dam on the right hand side; turn right after the dam where it is clearly marked with Simbavati River Lodge.
- Follow the Simbavati River Lodge paw print signs on the trees for a further 6 km to the lodge.

En-suite chalet with 2 rooms, one with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds. Family Rooms are equipped with eco-friendly air-conditioning and offers a private game viewing deck.
Please note that the room rate is based on 2 guests. Maximum occupancy is 4 guests. Additional charges apply for additional guests.
Twin Room
This Twin Room is located in a luxury safari tent and features an en-suite bathroom and a private game viewing deck.
Cancellation Policy
If cancelled up to 30 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
If cancelled up to 14 days before date of arrival, 50 percent of total price of the reservation will be charged.
If cancelled up to 8 days before date of arrival, 75 percent of total price of the reservation will be charged.
If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
Deposit Policy
50 percent of the total amount will be charged at least 30 days prior to arrival.
Children and Extra Bed Policy
All children are welcome.
